Best Storage Tips

No matter what you're using a storage unit for—a move to a smaller home, extra room for your office or for temporary space during a remodel—you'll want to access your items easily. So here are some helpful packing ideas and storage tips!

Storage tips to consider:

  • Use boxes that are the same size.
This way, you'll be able to stack them easier, and they won't be unstable the farther up you go.
  • Put the heaviest boxes on the bottom—one of the best storage tips!
  • Leave a walkway for access to seasonal items.
If you are renting one of our larger storage units, then you'll want to leave room to walk in your unit. Climbing over boxes is only doable to a point. Another one of my favorite storage tips.
  • Label all boxes.
It just isn't fun looking through every box to find a single item. If you want to avoid this, label everything!
  • Take apart larger items, such as bed frames and tables.
This saves both room in your storage unit, as well as money because you won't need as large of a unit!
  • Stack couches on end to conserve space—a smart storage tip.

What to avoid:

  • Don't store food—Our storage units won't attract mice, but your food will. Stick to items that won't attract rodents or ants of any kind.
  • Avoid stacking boxes on partially-filled boxes because they will crush their contents.
